Heritage Land Rover Weekend

This weekend was the Land rover heritage weekend at the Gaydon Motor Heritage Center, celebrating the 60th anniversary of Land Rover. It was basically 3 days of land rovers, land rover related stuff and camping.

BHC were marshaling both of the heritage runs; the classic run(1 of each vehicle for each year between 1948 - 2008.) , the special vehicles run - every one else. BHC were also running the Inter-club challenge.

The weekend was long and hard work - but well worth it, It was a good way to spend a weekend, Plus it was a great laugh.

RTV Croydon

a good RTV, the sections were hard & fun, some of them even a little bit scary lol. There was lots of mud, i had some problems with grip but have some pointers from the other people in the club about how to try and sort that for next time. My tyre pressures are to high, so for the next RTV they suggested that i let them down to about 25psi.

Quite a few people turned up, and took part. the weather was cloudy, the site was very wet and muddy. the drive down was a bit boring and uneventful, the driving there was great :)

RTV Yarwell

this is such a awesome site to go off roading at. It's basically a big sand pit, with a few lakes thrown in for good measure, add a few trees, hills and a couple of rocky bits - and thats Yarwell. The best bit is that its about 20 min from where i live.

The weather was crap - rain and lots of it ... it didn't seem to matter at all though, the sections more than made up for that.

This was also the 1st time iv really done anything on my own, i tried to do some of the sections with out anyone from the club sitting in with me and it mostly went ok.

overall it was a success, there was some minor damage ... a broken side light, a dent in my wing, a dent in my roof, smashed number plate, a bent aerial.

10/10 for today

RTV Twiney Woods

Another great day of offroading. There were several novices taking part (which i was one of) as well as a good few others.

This is the 2nd time iv been to this site - having been there before didn't really help at all, other than remembering how to get there.

it was a long cold day, a bit of frost, some BIG muddy puddles and lots of trees.

The best bit tho - i came away with a trophy. I managed to come 1st place in the novice class!

BHCLRC Heath & Reach RTV

On Sunday I entered the RTV at Heath & Reach, there were about 15 people entering, 2 of whom were entering as novices (me and another guy)

it was REALLY Muddy, and great fun. Overall i came last, but it was a great day and i had a laugh.

BHCLRC Christmass RTV

I'v had my Land Rover for a few months now, and join a Land Rover club (http://www.bhclrc.org.uk/) they hold monthly events/ Greenlane trips / etc

id been to the last 2 RTVs and just watched - this time i was going to take part!

A RTV is a all day competition over several sections. Each section has several gates, starting at 12, and counting down. The idea is to get threw all the gates with out touching them or with out stopping. if you stop or touch 1 of the gates, you score that amount. so if you get round the whole section - you get 0 points. At the end of the day the people with the lowest points win.

this was the Christmas RTV, so had a few twists. 1st off there was a prize for the best decorated Land Rover, then there was a section that had to be done entirely in reverse, also a stage where you were a passenger & had to direct the driver - who was blind folded.
I managed to clear the 1st stage with 0 points, the rest of the sages i scored between 4 & 12.

As this was my 1st time, i entered as a novice. This meant i could go at then end each time & also have someone sit in with me and give me pointers.

Overall the day was amazing fun, apart from been freezing.

I'm defiantly going to enter the next one!
